Cratewise (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a vinyl record collection manager for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.
When you first use the app, we generate a random anonymous device identifier. This is not linked to your Apple ID, name, or email address. It is used solely to associate your data with your device for authentication purposes.
Album titles, artist names, genres, years, and other metadata you enter about your record collection. This data is stored locally on your device in Core Data and optionally synced via Apple iCloud (which you control through your device's iCloud settings).
When you use AI-powered features (artist bios, album stories, recommendations, album identification), we log the request type, token counts, and response time. This is used for rate limiting and service reliability. We do not log the content of AI responses tied to your identity.
If you choose to create a public profile with a username, that username and any stacks you publish are visible to other users. You control your profile visibility in Settings.
AI features (bios, stories, recommendations, album identification from photos) are processed by an AI service provider. Album titles and artist names you query are sent to generate responses. Photos sent for album identification are processed in real time and are not stored after processing.
We fetch album artwork from Deezer, Apple iTunes, and MusicBrainz/Cover Art Archive. These services receive the artist and album names you search for. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for details on how they handle requests.
Collection sync uses Apple's CloudKit. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, managed by Apple under their privacy policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data. You can disable sync in your device's iCloud settings.
Analytics and crash reporting are only enabled if you explicitly opt in. They are not pre-enabled. If you opt in, anonymized usage data and crash reports are collected to help us improve the app. You can change this at any time in Settings.
Local data is stored on your device using Core Data. Server-side data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway (US-based). All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. Device authentication uses Apple's App Attest framework.
Your collection data is stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account. You have direct access to it at all times.
You can delete your account and all associated server-side data at any time from Settings > Account > Delete Account. This permanently removes your device identity, AI usage logs, public profile, stacks, follows, and all other data from our servers.
You can decline analytics and crash reporting. The app works fully without them. AI features require server communication but you can choose not to use them.
If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have the right to access, rectify, delete, and port your personal data. You also have the right to restrict or object to processing. Analytics requires your explicit opt-in consent. To exercise your rights, use the in-app deletion feature or contact us.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt out of data sharing. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Cratewise is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
We may update this policy. Significant changes will be communicated through app updates. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
